Today we’d like to introduce you to KaTanya Brewer.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?I began performing in the Columbus’ Short North Arts District during their monthly event called Gallery Hop in 2009. From there I fell in love with the art of street performing. I’ve performed for passerby, on the doorsteps of community members where I was sent to surprise them with a 20 minute or so serenade. This was how I launched my own business entitled Sidewalk Serenades during the pandemic. I was close, but not too close to deliver a message of love to someone.

Because I enjoyed singing, you could find me at farmer’s markets, monthly art events and other special occasions around the city. I embrace the art of performing outdoors for unexpecting listeners because I am able to perform what I want. The sound of music beautifies our environment no matter where it’s played. I’ve even seen music motivate people to action while performing during protests held in downtown Columbus. For that reason, I look for opportunities and take them. My iPad and wireless Bluetooth-connected speaker goes with me everywhere should an opportunity present itself.
